Several professors and a member of the supervisory board of the Václav Havel Library, Mrs. Táňa Fischerová, have signed a declaration that they have called Charter 2012.

“After 23 years we are again declaring our allegiance to the revolutionary year of 1989 and to the Czech Velvet Revolution,” says one section of the text, which was written by the psychologist and journalist Bohumil Sláma. “We also declare our allegiance to Czech dissidents and to Charter 77, many of whose demands have not been met either in the global, European, or Czech spheres.” In the view of the signatories, contemporary society has fallen into a state of “new absolutism and Plutocratic rule that is particularly rampant in our country.”
